Trains of Thought

The train stops for no one! The trains that I am talking about are the ones that are blazing through my head every day.   I don't know about you, but sometimes they come fast, really fast and it feels like I want to chase around every thought in my head!

Imagine yourself sitting on a bench at one of the busiest train stations in the world. I'm talking New York City Penn Station big. Trains coming from all different directions and passing you by.  You have in your possession an unlimited pass to jump on any single one of these trains of your choosing, no matter the cost.  You can jump on some of the trains and ride them as long as you want before hopping off on the next stop.

Some of these trains are headed to places that you do not want any part of and know they are going to a deep dark place you have most likely been before, these are dangerous, but you hop on-board anyway and go for the ride. Giving into temptation STARTS RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT. Once you went in on the thought, you can expect the action to come any second after or hours later.  What if you can get better at the process of picking and choosing which train you want to be on? That is a form of discipline. Hop on the trains that you believe are going to take you to a place you want to go, and let the rest just pass you by.

Four easy ways to avoid hopping on a #ThoughtTrain you do not really want to be on:
  1. Get up and move, walk outside at a minimum. This is critical, especially if at work. Exercise is the #1 way to quiet your mind. #Fact
  2. Ride the trains enough to acknowledge they exists, then hop off immediately.
  3. Get around family, friends, people.
  4. Think of something that puts you in a place of calm. i.e. getting a massage, the ocean, sitting on the beach, etc.
The benefit over time of not hopping on those trains is big, it's life-changing big.  Now you start to see more trains that you want to ride.  All of a sudden these trains are able to take you farther than you ever thought possible.  Get on the good trains, eliminate the negative trains, and develop the courage to consistently ride trains that you were too scared to ride before.  One day at a time, one train ride at a time.
